BrightDog Theatre is a UK-based touring company founded in East Sussex by Aidan McConville and Tom Messmer. We collaborate and are driven by a passion to create original, thought-provoking theatre that speaks to the heart of contemporary society.

At BrightDog, we believe theatre should be accessible, urgent and alive. We champion emerging talent and untold stories, presented in a way that reflects the zeitgeist of the 2020s, challenging audiences to engage with the cultural shifts shaping our world.

We are climate conscious and all of our shows and tours are built with the goal of leaving as small a carbon footprint as we can. We take advantage of minimal sets, car shares and recycled costumes.

Our debut production, As the Snow Falls, written and performed by McConville and Messmer, was showcased during an evening of R&D to sell-out audiences in January 2025. It earned rave reviews for its powerful themes, dark humour, and gripping performances. Based on this success, we secured a four-show run at Lewes Little Theatre in May and are now touring across the South East this Autumn at a number of venues including the Phoenix Arts Club in London and the White Rock Theatre in Hastings.

 

At BrightDog Theatre, we believe in the transformative power of live performance. We create theatre that provokes, challenges and stays with you long after the final bow.
